Arusha Airport is a domestic airport located approximately 8 kilometres west of Arusha Town centre, serving as the primary departure point for scheduled and charter light aircraft flights to Tanzania's northern and western safari circuit parks including Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Zanzibar, Ruaha, Katavi, Mahale and the Kenyan Maasai Mara. The airport handles a high volume of light aircraft traffic operated by Tanzania's major safari aviation companies including Coastal Aviation, Air Excel, Regional Air and Auric Air, making it the busiest light aircraft hub in East Africa during peak safari season. Unlike the larger Kilimanjaro International Airport 46 kilometres to the east, Arusha Airport handles domestic flights only and has no international scheduled services, but its location within Arusha town makes it significantly more convenient for guests beginning or ending safari circuits without the longer transfer to Kilimanjaro. Most upmarket northern circuit safari itineraries begin with a road or air transfer from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Arusha Airport for onward flight connections into the parks.
